About the Artist
I paint landscapes because I am drawn to the atmosphere of a place as much as its appearance — the shifting light before rain, the warmth of evening across open water, the movement of wind through trees, and the sometimes quiet, sometimes powerful rhythms found in nature. My work is inspired by those fleeting moments that are often felt before they are fully seen.
Working in oil allows me to build paintings slowly and instinctively. I love the richness of the colour, the depth that can be created through layers, and the physical texture of the paint itself.
Rather than aiming for exact realism, I focus on mood, light, and atmosphere — simplifying forms, exaggerating colour where needed, and allowing texture and gesture to guide the painting. I am interested in capturing how a landscape feels to stand within, not simply how it looks.
Many of my paintings begin outdoors with photographs, or time spent walking and observing. Back in the studio, memory and emotion become just as important as reference material.
The final work becomes a conversation between the landscape itself and my personal response to it.
Above all, I hope my paintings create a sense of connection to nature, to memories, and to the experience of slowing down long enough to notice beauty in ordinary places.
